The Market Is Quietly Removing A Risk Premium™

Markets are ending the week with a noticeably different tone as easing U.S.-Iran tensions, falling Treasury yields, collapsing oil prices, and one of the largest IPOs in market history reshape investor expectations. While yesterday's inflation reports confirmed that price pressures remain elevated, today's market action suggests investors are increasingly focused on future inflation drivers rather than backward-looking data.

Markets are increasingly focused on tomorrow's inflation drivers rather than yesterday's inflation reports. That shift in thinking is helping support equities this morning despite inflation data that remained elevated. U.S. equity futures are holding firm following Thursday's rally as relief continues replacing fear across financial markets amid growing optimism surrounding U.S.-Iran negotiations. The benchmark U.S. 10-Year Treasury note (4.38% coupon) is trading near 98.35 to yield approximately 4.45%, reflecting renewed demand for duration as geopolitical concerns ease and energy prices retreat. Premarket leadership remains concentrated in earnings-driven names, with Okta surging after a strong beat-and-raise quarter, Lululemon posting gains following resilient consumer demand, and Flutter Entertainment advancing after announcing New York as its sole primary listing venue. Investors will also closely monitor this morning's University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment and inflation expectations data for clues regarding the health of the U.S. consumer and the future path of Federal Reserve policy.

Overnight markets reflected a significant reassessment of global risk conditions as investors increasingly shift from geopolitical pricing back toward monetary-policy pricing. Crude oil plunged nearly 4% to roughly $77.11 per barrel as traders removed a substantial geopolitical premium from energy markets following signs of progress in Middle East diplomacy and the potential normalization of key shipping routes. Gold remains elevated near $4,242 per ounce, reflecting continued demand for portfolio protection despite improving risk sentiment. Foreign exchange markets are also reflecting the shift in tone, with the euro strengthening to 1.1573, sterling trading near 1.3410, the Swiss franc near 0.7961, the Japanese yen near 160.15, and the Mexican peso appreciating toward 17.2242 per dollar as investors modestly reduce defensive dollar positioning. Markets are no longer asking whether conflict will disrupt growth—they are once again asking where interest rates ultimately settle.

The market may be celebrating lower uncertainty today, but long-term investors remain focused on the durability of economic resilience. Today's institutional story extends beyond the historic public debut of SpaceX, as capital continues following confidence toward regions where investment, trade, and industrial expansion remain durable. The Mexican peso remains one of the strongest-performing major emerging-market currencies this year, reinforcing the view that investors continue favoring North America's manufacturing and trade corridor despite elevated global uncertainty. Digital assets are also showing early signs of stabilization, with Bitcoin recovering toward $63,560, Ethereum consolidating near $1,671.87, USDT holding at $1.00, and Dogecoin trading near $0.085 as broader risk sentiment improves. Beneath the surface, however, consumer credit conditions remain under pressure, with elevated delinquencies and borrowing costs highlighting a growing divergence between Wall Street optimism and Main Street affordability.

The Market Is Quietly Removing A Risk Premium™

Yesterday's inflation reports confirmed that price pressures remain elevated, but today's market reaction suggests investors are increasingly focused on future inflation drivers rather than backward-looking data. Falling oil prices, lower Treasury yields, and improving geopolitical conditions are encouraging investors to remove a portion of the risk premium that has been embedded across global asset classes.

Capital is rotating away from fear and back toward opportunity, although investors are not abandoning portfolio hedges entirely. The combination of lower yields, weaker energy prices, and resilient risk assets suggests markets are becoming increasingly comfortable with the near-term outlook.

What To Watch Into The Close

• University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment & Inflation Expectations (10:00 AM ET)

• SpaceX (SPCX) opening-day liquidity and institutional demand

• Whether WTI crude remains below $80 per barrel

• Treasury yield behavior below 4.50%

• Positioning ahead of next week's Federal Reserve meeting

Ionfi | Strategic Insight™

Yesterday's inflation reports reinforced that price pressures have not fully disappeared, but today's market action suggests investors believe the most significant recent inflation catalyst—energy—may be moving in the opposite direction.

The combination of lower oil prices, falling yields, and improving geopolitical conditions is creating a rare environment where both risk assets and fixed income can find support simultaneously.
