The Burden of Expectations™

Markets are beginning to question whether future growth, artificial intelligence spending, and anticipated monetary easing can justify today's elevated cost of capital. Good news is no longer enough to support risk assets as investors increasingly favor liquidity, earnings visibility, and dollar-denominated assets.

Ionfi Morning Treasury Pulse™

Wall Street enters Tuesday facing its sharpest technology-led selloff in several months, yet the market's challenge this morning is not higher interest rates, rising oil prices, or escalating geopolitical tensions. The U.S. 10-Year Treasury remains near 4.48%, the 30-Year Treasury trades near 4.94%, Brent crude has retreated toward $77, and geopolitical tensions continue to ease, suggesting investors are increasingly questioning whether future growth assumptions justify today's elevated cost of capital. Nasdaq futures are lower by approximately 2.5%, S&P 500 futures are down roughly 1.4%, while the Dow continues to outperform as investors rotate toward defensive sectors and established earnings profiles. Investors are increasingly rewarding profitability, cash flow, and balance-sheet strength.

That reassessment extended overnight as semiconductor shares weakened throughout Asia, South Korea's KOSPI suffered a sharp decline, and European technology stocks moved lower. Micron fell sharply following memory-chip weakness abroad, Alphabet remains under pressure amid continued competition for artificial intelligence talent, while IBM advanced as investors rewarded stable cash flows and proven business models. Yet perhaps the most important development of the morning is not what is falling, but what is failing to help. WTI crude trades near $73, Brent crude near $77, gold has declined toward $4,141, silver has experienced even steeper losses, Bitcoin trades near $62,449, and Ethereum has retreated toward $1,659 as investors increasingly favor liquidity, yield, and dollar-denominated assets. Lower oil prices, easing geopolitical tensions, and stable Treasury yields have so far failed to support risk assets.

The U.S. dollar continues to strengthen as EUR/USD trades near 1.1400, USD/JPY approaches 161.50, GBP/USD weakens toward 1.3220, USD/CHF rises toward 0.8100, and USD/MXN advances toward 17.49 as elevated Treasury yields continue attracting global capital toward dollar assets. Across Latin America, stronger dollar conditions, lower commodity prices, and tighter financial conditions may place additional pressure on regional liquidity and funding costs. For financial institutions and businesses throughout the region, access to dollar funding and liquidity management may become increasingly important themes during the second half of the year. The market's problem this morning is not where yields are moving. It is where they are not.

Ionfi | CIO Perspective™

What to Watch Into the Close

• Does the Nasdaq stabilize or lead a broader market de-risking?

• Can the 10-Year Treasury remain near 4.50% without further pressuring growth assets?

• Will lower energy prices eventually support equities, or will monetary policy continue to dominate investor sentiment?

• Does the dollar continue strengthening against emerging-market currencies?

• How do investors position ahead of this week's PCE inflation report?
